Quickflick describe themselves as an Open Source short film festival. They are a global movement with groups in Barcelona, Buenos Aired and even Tokyo. These global groups regularly meet and host screening parties, showcasing some of the short movies that have been submitted, and masterclass events. Their previous website lacked the modern administration facilities to allow for multiple administrators as well as multiple language support. As a result, many of the groups had resorted to building their own sites, independent of the main site.
The requirements of the new site was a database storage of all the past themes, filmmakers, films and multi language support. The site had to be built to allow the team leaders of the various global groups to administer their own area of the site. These “city administrators” eventually had control over the colour associated with their area of the site, as can be seen in the heading colours. They could also edit the content in their area of the site and post several different versions of content in different languages.
The solution was a new site built using the Drupal 6 content management system. The new design was conducted by the highly talented designer, Simon Baird. The final site had customised language modules, Flickr and Daily Motion integration.
The customised language modules allow the global administrator to add new language options to the site. There is also a directory of all the filmmakers, linking to each filmmaker’s profile detailing the films they have submitted to the site.
